Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The prices of imported fruits have been observed to rise as the US Dollar continues to strengthen and the Rupiah weakens further. Fruit traders revealed that prices for imported varieties have been trending upwards over the past two weeks.

According to observations at Pasar Senen, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (3/6/2026), the majority of imported fruit prices have increased by Rp5,000 per kg. Certain types of imported apples have now reached prices of approximately Rp100,000 per kg, with others sitting around Rp50,000 per kg. Similarly, other imported fruits such as oranges, lychees, and various types of grapes have also reached or exceeded the Rp50,000 per kg mark.

Yani, a trader with a wide variety of imported apples, noted that prices range from Rp45,000 to Rp110,000 per kg. This increase follows the ongoing depreciation of the Rupiah against the US Dollar. “Yes, imported fruit prices are rising because the Rupiah is weakening; the increase is an average of Rp5,000 per kg,” Yani told CNBC Indonesia on Wednesday.

The price hike has impacted purchasing volumes, as customers tend to reduce the amount of imported fruit they buy. “Because it is expensive, it certainly impacts the volume of purchases. There are still many buyers, but the quantity has decreased; those who usually buy at least one kilogram are now only buying half a kilogram. For example, some apples reach Rp110,000 per kg,” she added.

Kurnia, another trader, also reported a price increase of Rp5,000 per kg. For instance, Wogan oranges have reached Rp45,000 per kg, up from approximately Rp40,000 per kg. Like Yani, Kurnia noted that customers are reducing their purchases from one kilogram to just half a kilogram or even just a few pieces of fruit, depending on the type.

According to Refinitiv data, the Rupiah stood at Rp17,945 per US Dollar as of 14:00 WIB on Wednesday (3/6/2026), continuing its downward trend since the market opened.
