JAKARTA - The case of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras), has entered a new phase. On the same day, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) announced several perpetrators of the acid attack. The acid attack by unidentified individuals on Andrie Yunus occurred on Thursday night (12/3/2026) in the Senen area, Central Jakarta. Based on the initial diagnosis by the medical team at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Andrie suffered burns to approximately 24 percent of his body. Following the incident, several parties urged that the case be uncovered quickly and transparently. Law enforcement authorities then initiated an investigation to apprehend the perpetrators. Through a press conference on Wednesday afternoon (18/3/2026), the Commander of the Military Police Centre (Puspom) of the TNI Headquarters (Mabes), Major General Yusri Nuryanto, announced the perpetrators. It turns out that four members of the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais) were the perpetrators of the acid attack on the Kontras activist. “These four alleged perpetrators are from the TNI Bais Denma,” said Yusri during the press conference at TNI Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday. Yusri detailed the initials of the four TNI personnel. “Their mother units are from the Navy and Air Force,” he said. Now, the four soldiers have been secured and detained at the Jayapura Military District Police (Pomdam Jaya). However, Yusri has not yet announced the roles and motives of the acid attack on the activist. “So we are still delving into the motive,” he emphasised.
