New Order and the antek issue
New Order and the antek issue
The first week of the election campaign was marked by two
things.
The first could be seen from the number of people attending
campaigns and the second was questions about the benefit of
campaigning.
However, the first week of the rally was characterized by the
hot issue regarding the controversy between the reform movement
and the New Order, and Concern for the Nation Functional Party
(PKPB) chairman R. Hartono persuading people not to hesitate to
become former president Soeharto's antek (stooges).
Many were disappointed at Hartono's call, as "antek" is
defined as one who could be used by the people or nation as an
accomplice, or worse, slave.
These words have negative meanings and connotations. The
strange thing is that Hartono has made the call many times during
campaigning.
Through that use of the word, Hartono has put Pak Harto in the
wrong light. It makes it appear that Pak Harto is fond of making
people his slaves.
In fact, Pak Harto, whether we like it or not, did have many
good achievements. -- Media Indonesia, Jakarta
