New on the Job: Domestic Worker in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta Allegedly Raped by Employer's Driver
JAKARTA — A domestic worker (ART) identified as DI (20) is believed to have been raped by a driver identified as DF (30) at her employer’s residence in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on her first day at work, Monday, 18 May 2026. The victim had only just arrived in Jakarta to begin work on Sunday, 17 May 2026, in the evening.
‘The victim had only worked for one day. She arrived on Sunday night and the incident occurred on Monday night,’ said Ni Luh Sri Arsini, head of the PPA-PPO unit of the North Jakarta Police, when met at the North Jakarta Police Headquarters on Friday, 22 May 2026.
Initially, the suspect massaged the victim’s back after she changed clothes following her arrival from her hometown.
The following night, Monday (18 May 2026) in the evening, the suspect is said to have returned to the victim’s room when the house was quiet. At that time, the babysitter had left with the employer and the child, leaving only the victim and the suspect in the house.
‘The suspect entered the victim’s room, initially massaging the feet, then the shoulders,’ Ni Luh said.
Ni Luh disclosed that the suspect then locked the door and switched off the lights before engaging in intercourse without the victim’s consent.
‘The victim also said there was a knife on the table that is normally used to cut food, so she feared the suspect would act, and therefore she was unable to resist,’ she added.
In addition to the report from DI, Ni Luh said the authorities also received a report of alleged sexual harassment by a babysitter identified as EA who works in the same house.
EA reported that parts of her body were touched inappropriately by DF several times.
‘The perpetrator has been secured at the police for examination,’ Ni Luh said.
