The Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Bali conducted a new moon sighting (rukyatul hilal) to determine the start of Dzulhijjah 1447 Hijri and the date of Eid al-Adha 2026 at Sekeh Beach, Kuta, Badung, on Sunday (17/5/2026).

The Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Bali, I Gusti Made Sunartha, said that based on monitoring, the new moon was not visible due to cloud cover.

“Although it was clear, the humidity was high, causing thick clouds. Therefore, we could not see it this afternoon,” said Sunartha.

Until 18:29 local time, the new moon had not been sighted. Sunartha stated that these results would be reported to the Ministry of Religious Affairs and they would await results from other regions throughout Indonesia.

“However, we are still waiting for results from Sabang to Merauke,” he added.

The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Region III Denpasar’s meteorology and geophysics observer, Salman Alfarisi, explained the position of the new moon relative to the sun.

“The new moon is estimated to be visible north of the sun at an altitude of 4.152 degrees,” he said.

As observed by detikBali, until 18:35 local time, the new moon was not visible. The BMKG Region III Denpasar team has confirmed that the new moon was not visible in Bali.
