New modus operandi: Banceuy Prison thwarts smuggling of meth in condom
Bandung (ANTARA) - The Class IIA Banceuy Prison in Bandung has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 10.64 grams of methamphetamine using a condom as concealment.
“The illicit substance was found hidden in the rectum of an individual with the initials S, wrapped in a condom,” said the Head of Class IIA Banceuy Prison, Eris Ramdani, in Bandung on Monday.
He explained that the incident occurred when officers discovered 13 packets of methamphetamine from two visitors to inmate Denis Setiawan.
“We obtained 13 packets of narcotics carried to the inmate Denis, and upon investigation, it turned out they were smuggled during the visit. Denis was visited by two people: his younger brother and his younger brother’s friend,” he said.
Eris stated that his team immediately apprehended S, the younger brother of inmate Denis, and his friend AS at the main gate.
“(The perpetrators) are siblings. For visits, we restrict them to immediate family, so the one carrying it was the younger brother’s friend,” he added.
He further noted that preliminary questioning revealed the two perpetrators were promised Rp1 million to bring the methamphetamine into Banceuy Prison.
Eris said that his side has now coordinated with the Bandung Police Resort’s Narcotics Detective Unit to develop the case further.
He emphasised that strict sanctions will be imposed on inmates if proven involved, including the possible revocation of their rights.
