New mall planned for Kemayoran
Rizky KD Ntoma, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta
Jakarta will soon have another mall with the ongoing construction
of Megaglodok Kemayoran, located at Kota Baru Bandar Kemayoran,
Central Jakarta.
The new integrated business center, expected to open in July
2005, comprises a mall, two office buildings and two towers
consisting of apartments, a hotel and offices.
The president director of Megaglodok Kemayoran, Sasmita
Winata, told a press conference on Wednesday evening during the
soft launch of the mall that 30 percent of the kiosks and 70
percent of the offices and shops had already been sold.
There will be 3,000 kiosks in the mall, with prices ranging
from Rp 20 million (US$2,439) to Rp 60 million per square meter.
As for the offices and shops, there will be 128 units with each
unit being offered for between Rp 1 billion and Rp 2.5 billion.
Sasmita said that the total investment during the first stage
would amount to Rp 500 billion.
"That figure is for the first phase only. We believe that it
will increase soon," he said, declining to mention the expected
investment during the second phase.
Sasmita said that while Megaglodok, so called as it is a spin-
off from the Glodok electronics center, would focus on
electronics, it would also prioritize the sale of vehicle
accessories and spare parts.
"We are building a different mall, not a regular fashion or
lifestyle oriented mall," he said.
There will also be a food court in the mall.
Sasmita pointed out that the reason the mall was being built
in Kemayoran was due to its accessible location as it was near
the Kemayoran toll gate and would attract customers from the
surrounding areas of Sunter, Kelapa Gading, Ancol, Mangga Dua,
Pasar Baru, Senen, Gunung Sahari and Cempaka Putih.
The Megaglodok construction, which is being carried out by PT
Totalindo, is divided into two phases: the first consisting of
the construction of the mall and two office buildings, and the
second the construction of two 35-story towers.
