New look of the 'Post'
After observing the new look of The Jakarta Post for several weeks I come to the conclusion that I like the old Post better. First of all, the Post now has so many sports pages and worse, sports stories are put on the front page also. If I wanted to read sport news, I would buy "Bola" of Kompas or subscribe to sports magazines.
If the Post is trying to imitate The Straits Times of Singapore, it has surely failed because The Straits Times is so thick (about a hundred pages) with only about five sports pages. Meanwhile, the 20-page Jakarta Post already has three sports pages. What a waste of space.
Secondly, the new "People and Places" column occupies too much space with five stories daily, accompanied by photographs. Even Kompas only provides two similar stories that are put on the back page.
This is not proportional. After all, The Jakarta Post is a general national newspaper, not a sports or gossip tabloid.
I don't see any improvement in quality with the new look of the Post except for the different appearance. It is very disappointing considering the rise in the price recently. At the price of Rp 4000 per copy, the Post looks like a cheap tabloid.
