New INKA CLI-225 Commuter Trains Pulled Into Workshops and Suspended From Service
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The new EA-207 CLI-225, also known as the iE305 series, produced by PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero) or INKA, has temporarily ceased operations. Seven train sets are undergoing a general check-up carried out by KAI Commuter together with INKA from 7 September until 30 September 2026.
The CLI-225 is one of the new fleets ordered by PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) from INKA. The trains were manufactured directly at INKA’s factory in Madiun, East Java.
KAI Commuter’s (KCI) VP Corporate Secretary, Karina Amanda, said the inspection is being carried out together with INKA on the seven train sets from 7 to 30 September 2026.
“We at KCI, together with INKA, are currently carrying out a general check-up on the iE305 series trains manufactured by INKA, starting from the 7th of September,” Karina told CNBC Indonesia when contacted on Tuesday (8/9/2026).
The CLI-225 is not entirely developed with local technology. During production, INKA collaborated with Japanese technology from J-TREC and partnered with Toyo Denki for a number of key components.
Toyo Denki supplies various important components, including pantographs, doors, passenger information displays, master controls, inverters, twin discs, power supplies, traction motors, and driving gears.
Already Underwent Testing
Before being used to serve passengers, the CLI-225 also underwent a series of tests. INKA previously conducted comprehensive testing from 16 to 20 March 2025.
The testing was carried out in several stages, from parameter settings to running or dynamic tests. One of the test routes ran back and forth between Solo Jebres Station and Lempuyangan Station.
During the dynamic tests, a number of performance aspects were assessed, including acceleration, maximum speed, and braking capability.
INKA also conducted the testing in Solo because it required a longer track to test the train’s performance according to contract requirements, compared with the test track available at the Madiun factory.
One CLI-225 train set, comprising 12 carriages, also underwent a trial run from Tugu Station in Yogyakarta to Klaten Station and back.
Following that series of tests, INKA scheduled the first trial on the Jabodetabek network. The testing formed part of the requirements to ensure the feasibility of the rolling stock before entering commercial service, in accordance with Minister of Transportation Regulation Number 49 of 2023.
Maximum Speed of 120 km/h
Each EA-207 CLI-225 train set comprises 12 carriages. The train uses a stainless steel body with four doors on each side.
In terms of performance, the train has a maximum speed of up to 120 kilometres per hour. Its traction system uses a VVVF-IGBT RG6061-A-M manufactured by Toyo Denki.
The train uses a 1,500 V DC electrification system with overhead lines and is equipped with a pantograph as current collector.
For the bogies, INKA used a new type developed from previous commuter train bogies as well as bogies from INKA-built trains used for KTMB in Malaysia. The train uses INKA MB1122 and INKA TB1622 bogies.
For passenger comfort, the CLI-225 is fitted with a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system, or HVAC, comprising two INKA I-Cond units.
The specifications of the EA-207 CLI-225, or iE305 series, are as follows:
Body construction: Stainless steel
Doors: 4 doors on each side
Maximum speed: 120 km/h
Traction system: Toyo Denki VVVF-IGBT RG6061-A-M
Electrification: 1,500 V DC

At present, the seven iE305 train sets are still undergoing the general check-up. KCI has provisionally scheduled the inspection to run until 30 September 2026.
