New Indonesian Navy Warship Arrives in Indonesia: Peek at the Specifications of the 'Sea Monster' KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321
Indonesia’s maritime defence is receiving a significant boost. The Indonesian Navy’s latest warship, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, has officially entered national waters after completing a long transoceanic voyage. The Pattugliatore Polivalente d’Altura (PPA)-type vessel was detected passing through the Sunda Strait as the final phase of Operation Jala Raksa-26. Its arrival was immediately welcomed by other Indonesian Navy elements, KRI Bung Karno-369 from the Escort Ship Unit (Satkor) of the First Fleet Command. The welcoming moment was more than just a ceremony. The two ships conducted a passing exercise or Passex, a tactical sea manoeuvre that serves as an indicator of combat readiness and the professionalism of the personnel. The exercise proceeded smoothly and demonstrated solidarity among the units. Coordination and communication between the ships were well-maintained, signalling that the integration of the Indonesian Navy’s combat systems continues to develop amid increasingly complex maritime security demands. After completing the series of activities at sea, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 continued its voyage to Panjang Dock in Lampung for logistical replenishment before it is scheduled to undergo inauguration in Jakarta at the end of March 2026. The arrival of this ship is not merely an addition to military equipment. More than that, it symbolises the success of a transoceanic voyage that covered a long route from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean, while also affirming Indonesia’s readiness to operate high-technology warships. Designed for Multi-Mission Operations, from Patrol to Modern Warfare KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 is a versatile warship built by the Italian shipyard Fincantieri. The PPA platform it carries is known for its flexibility, as it can be configured for various needs, from maritime security patrols to high-intensity combat operations. Its design adopts a modern concept with a wave-piercing bow prow that enhances stability when facing large waves, while also maintaining fuel efficiency on long-distance voyages. In terms of size, this ship is considered large in its class. Its length reaches 143 metres with a beam of 16.5 metres and a draught of 5.2 metres. Its displacement can exceed 6,000 tonnes in full load condition, making it one of the most powerful warships in Southeast Asia. The maximum speed it can achieve reaches 32 knots or about 59 km per hour. Meanwhile, its operational range reaches 5,000 nautical miles, allowing the ship to operate for extended periods without needing to return to base frequently.
