New Indonesia, old style
New Indonesia, old style
I feel that every Tuesday evening (at 21:30) my rights as a TV
viewer are abused, because at that time all private TV stations
are broadcasting the same talk show Indonesia Baru (New
Indonesia). Unfortunately, to my mind, the program is far from
conveying the spirit of a new Indonesia.
My objection to the program is that, first, it shows a strong
sense of the old-style Indonesia, which stresses power and
centralization. One of the most ridiculous subjects, for example,
was when "decentralization and autonomy" was discussed; for
instance, the centralization system and central hegemony were
very outstandingly presented. How then, cannot it be called a
kind of mass indoctrination? Moreover, it was faintly rumored
that the show was initiated by an NGO or an institution of the
kind which originated from a developed country. What authority
does that institution have to teach us how to manage a "New
Indonesia"?
Second, replacing Wimar Witoelar, who was inclined to be
supportive of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, as the
moderator of the program, Eep Saefulloh Fatah does not seem to
act any better. The program is still strongly inclined to
monopolize and impose its vision and opinion to the public. And
now, the new moderator is Nathalia Subagyo. But, I am sorry to
say, this program should be completely terminated. Even in
America an institution is not allowed to buy simultaneous air
time (sort of blocking time) in such a manner.
