New governor for W. Nusa Tenggara
MATARAM: Harun Al Rasjid was elected West Nusa Tenggara
governor for the 1998-2003 term at a plenary meeting of the local
legislative assembly here on Saturday, Antara reported.
Al Rasjid, who is now Jakarta deputy governor, obtained 22 of
45 votes. L. Mudjitahid, West Lombok regent, was second with 17
votes and L. Azhar, West Nusa Tenggara deputy governor, third
with six votes.
Born in Bolo, Bima district, Al Rasyid, 59, will replace Maj.
Gen. (ret.) Warsito, whose term of office expires later this
month.
Also present at the gubernatorial election were the Ministry
of Home Affairs' Director General of General Administration and
Regional Autonomy Ryaas Rasyid, Warsito and other high-ranking
officials.
