New governor for Central Sulawesi
PALU, Central Sulawesi: Minister of Home Affairs Moch. Yogie S.M., on behalf of President Soeharto, yesterday installed Brig. Gen. (ret) H. Bandjela Paliudju as the governor of Central Sulawesi for 1996-2001.
The 51-year-old Paliudju, who is also chairman of the Central Sulawesi branch of the ruling Golkar organization, replaced H. Abdul Azis Lamadjido, Antara reported.
Thirty-two of the 44-member provincial legislative council voted for Paliudju in a plenary meeting last month.
Paliudju's competitors were deputy to outgoing governor Aziz Tandju, and senior official Kiesman Abdullah, who received seven and five votes respectively.
Half an hour after he was inaugurated in a tightly guarded ceremony, Paliudju was installed as chairman of the regional committee for the 1997 general elections. (swe)
