New government
New government
From Koran Tempo
Indonesia has successfully organized a legislative election
and two rounds of a direct presidential election -- the first in
Indonesia's history.
This shows that democracy has begun to be properly implemented
here. Some European countries have praised the democratic and
peaceful organization of the general election. In this respect,
the General Elections Commission and President Megawati
Soekarnoputri's administration deserve great appreciation for
these successful elections.
Indonesians must accept the new president-elect and work
together to cope with present and future challenges in the
country's development.
The new members of the House of Representatives and regional
legislative bodies, as well as members of the newly established
Regional Representatives Council, must work together with the
people to ensure that this country can emerge from its
multidimensional crisis and eradicate corruption, collusion and
nepotism. Only in this way can Indonesia secure her bright
future.
