The opening of flight services on the Guangzhou-Jakarta and Shenzhen-Jakarta routes is expected to attract more Chinese tourists to Indonesia.

“The presence of these two new flight routes is a proactive response to accommodate the increasing number of foreign tourist visits from China, which shows a positive trend, especially to Jakarta,” said Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism Ni Made Ayu Marthini in a ministry statement confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The inaugural aircraft serving the Guangzhou-Jakarta route landed at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Tuesday (16/6) at 21.10 WIB. The flight carried 172 passengers, filling 92.5 percent of the available seats.

The first aircraft serving the Shenzhen-Jakarta route arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Wednesday (17/6) at 18.20 WIB. It carried 178 passengers, filling 95.6 percent of the available seats.

Passengers on the Guangzhou-Jakarta and Shenzhen-Jakarta flights, which arrived on Tuesday (16/6) and Wednesday (17/6) respectively, received Wonderful Indonesia themed souvenirs.

Made said that Spring Airlines will subsequently serve the Guangzhou-Jakarta round-trip route three times a week on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays using an Airbus A320 aircraft. The aircraft serving the Shenzhen-Jakarta route will operate twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“This step is expected to attract more Chinese tourists to visit Indonesia on a sustainable basis, so that their interest in coming is maintained and continues to increase in the future,” Made said.

China is one of the countries that contributes significantly to the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia. According to government data, the number of Chinese tourist visits to Indonesia from January to April 2026 reached 491,726 visits, an increase of 25.58 percent from 391,578 visits in the same period in 2025.

As one of Indonesia’s main gateways, Jakarta is expected to become the starting point for Chinese tourists to explore Indonesia’s premier tourist destinations. The increase in foreign tourist visits to various Indonesian tourist destinations is expected to boost regional economies and contribute to national economic growth.
