New Facts Emerge in Bandung Confinement Case: Taufik Hidayat Faces Multiple Charges, Up to 12 Years in Prison
The case of confinement and assault against a woman with the initials YTR in Bandung Regency continues to reveal shocking new facts. After suspect Taufik Hidayat was successfully arrested, the West Java Regional Police disclosed the chronology of their relationship, the alleged motive for the violence, and the multiple charges facing the perpetrator. Meanwhile, the victim’s family has taken a firm stance after the suspect apologised in public. YTR, who is still undergoing treatment for serious injuries, is believed to have suffered repeated confinement and abuse over a considerable period.
West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan revealed that the relationship between the victim and the suspect began in 2024 after they met through the dating app Tinder. “This introduction began in 2024 through the Tinder app. They got acquainted, felt close, entered into a relationship, and then lived together in a boarding house,” Rudi said. During their relationship, the victim and the perpetrator moved residences several times. Police have identified four boarding house locations the couple occupied, and all locations have been processed as crime scenes.
Before disappearing, YTR was known to work at a company in the Pasteur area of Bandung City. She told her family she would be moving to work in Majalengka Regency after receiving a better salary offer. However, after searching, the family could not find the victim at the stated location. The family tried to communicate via Facebook because the victim’s phone number was unreachable. The victim briefly responded, asking her family not to look after her as she felt she was an adult. The family also received information that the victim was working at a television media company in Jakarta, but investigations showed this information was false. The victim’s whereabouts were finally discovered after the family received news that YTR was being treated at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung due to severe injuries believed to be the result of confinement and abuse.
