New Facts Emerge About Suspected Perpetrator of Bomb Threat at South Jakarta Primary School
Police have revealed new facts behind the sending of a bomb threat to SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, by a 34-year-old man with the initials MY.
Director of General Crimes at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, disclosed that the suspect’s child also attends the school.
“After the suspect was secured, it turned out his child also studies at the school, and this morning he had even picked up his child from school when the bomb threat was announced,” Iman said in an interview with CNNIndonesia TV on Monday (13 July).
According to Iman, investigators are still probing whether there were other factors behind the suspect’s decision to send the threatening message, including whether he harboured any grievances against the school.
“That is what we are still looking into,” he said.
The bomb threat occurred at SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Monday (13 July), the first day of the school environment orientation programme (MPLS).
Jagakarsa Police Chief Commissioner Nurma Dewi said the orientation activities at the school were disbanded after the bomb threat was received.
“They have been disbanded, and we have coordinated with all parties. Parents were panicking. The pupils have now gone home,” she said.
Nurma also confirmed that the situation at the school was safe after the threat, based on sweeps conducted by the Gegana team, Police Counter-Terrorism Squad Densus 88, the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) and tracker dogs, or K9 units.
“So everyone has declared the site safe — Gegana, Densus 88 and the tracker dogs, which carried out their duties for four hours, have all declared it safe,” Nurma said.
Based on screenshots seen by CNNIndonesia.com, the message sent by the suspect stated that a bomb would be detonated at the school within minutes.
The screenshots also showed the suspect sent the message twice. He also made a missed call after his threat went unanswered.
“GOOD MORNING AND GREETINGS. BE PREPARED, WITHIN MINUTES THIS SDN 15 PAGI PRIMARY SCHOOL WILL EXPLODE AND WE HAVE PREPARED 11 POINTS…!!!” read the threatening message.
