Residents engage in activities along the Muara Baru Beach seawall in Jakarta on Friday (10/4/2026). The seawall at Muara Baru Beach, located in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, is in fairly good condition. On-site observation reveals that the concrete wall stands firmly. Behind it, several barges are parked in the open sea. Local residents have turned the seawall into a hangout spot, enjoying the sea breeze in the afternoon. Although access roads to the seawall are not ideal, many residents pass through to spend time there. On the other hand, the seawall’s concrete shows no cracks whatsoever, leaving no gaps for water to enter the land. One resident named Sulaiman (39) stated that he feels safe with the presence of the seawall. “It’s been safe all this time; even during tidal floods, the water doesn’t really enter the settlements,” he said during a conversation with CNBC Indonesia. He also mentioned that the seawall has become a new play area for his children, as there is a field nearby that can serve as a playground for residents. “Climbing to the top of the seawall is indeed dangerous, but below it, along the edges here, there’s a field where the kids can play football,” he explained. At the location, the sea level was observed to exceed the height of houses in the area. Without this seawall, the lives of people in the area would truly be at risk. “We hope for continued synergy because this is a collective matter. No one can handle or prevent flooding disasters alone; it must be done together,” concluded one resident. Previously, in December 2025, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and the Ministry of Public Works responded to community reports of seawater seepage through the concrete seawall. After temporary patching, the government carried out permanent concreting.
