New Energy Minister Should be a Professional
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The position of the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister in the future cabinet should be filled by a person understanding the weaknesses of oil, gas, and mining management systems.
Therefore, this new minister should be able to take action to fix it.
“The new minister should be able to find such solutions so state revenues from mining activities can increase significantly,” said energy observer, Kurtubi, yesterday (4/10).
Kurtubi said that non-tax state revenues and taxes from mining activities in the 2008 state budget were only Rp42 trillion.
“This is too small and the total becomes smaller every year while the value of gold, coal, and nickel production reaches around Rp400 trillion,” he said.
He said that the new minister should immediately submit a new oil and gas draft bill.
“President Yudhoyono will be wise and rational in selecting a person for taking care of the energy sector,” he said.
