The case involving the alleged sexual harassment of a student at the Insan Cendekia Madani (ICM) international school in South Tangerang has entered a new phase, with police upgrading the case to the investigation stage. This escalation follows the acquisition of two pieces of evidence, prompting investigators to conduct a case review and identify potential criminal violations.

“Based on the results of verification and statements obtained from witnesses, the case has been upgraded from an inquiry to an investigation,” stated the Head of Public Relations for the South Tangerette Police, Inspector Yudhi Susanto, on Friday (1/19/2026). A total of seven witnesses, ranging from family members to school staff, have been questioned. Their testimonies, alongside other evidence, will be used for case reconstruction.

Police are preparing to summon the reported individual, the teacher suspected of the harassment, for questioning.

ICM has suspended the teacher following the allegations, describing the move as an administrative measure. The school stated that the suspension of the primary school teacher took effect on 25 August 2026, following the initial handling of the report on 24 August 2026. The school emphasised that the suspension is a precautionary step to maintain a safe and conducive educational environment and to support the ongoing legal process, rather than a final conclusion of guilt.

The founder and Chairman of the ICM Board of Trustees, Tamsil Linrung, issued an apology to the student and their family, stating that no reason can justify a child returning from school activities with physical or psychological trauma. He assured that the victim would receive full protection and recovery support, and that the school would support the legal process without any intervention or special treatment for any party.

The victim’s legal counsel, Muhammad Fadhli, revealed that the alleged criminal acts occurred between 2023 and 2026. He alleged that the perpetrator utilised ‘child grooming’—a manipulative approach involving lures to exploit the victim sexually. According to Fadhli, the incidents began when the perpetrator served as the victim’s class teacher in Year 4 during the 2023-2024 academic year and allegedly continued until the victim entered junior high school.

The alleged harassment reportedly took place in classrooms after regular school hours, disguised as private Quran recitation lessons. Fadhli further alleged that the perpetrator showed inappropriate pornographic videos to the victim and attempted physical contact and requests for indecent photos, though the latter was resisted by the victim.
