New Developments in Alleged Child Abuse Case in Sleman
The case involving a man suspected of sexually abusing his 3.5-year-old biological child in Sleman has entered a new phase. The Sleman City Police have upgraded the status of the case to the investigation stage.
“Regarding the case involving the infant, we are currently handling it within the investigation process. The investigation has been underway since 16 September,” said the Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) of the Sleman City Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Iptu Cahya Fitria, when met at the Sleman Police Headquarters on Friday (18/9/2026).
In this case, the police have interrogated three witnesses. Although the case has moved to the investigation stage, no suspect has been officially named yet.
“As of now, there are three witnesses: the mother as the reporter, the reported individual, and a member of the reported individual’s family. No suspect has been determined yet; it is still under investigation,” said Cahya.
Cahta emphasised that there will be no restorative justice (RJ) or mediation mechanism during the investigation stage of this case.
“For sexual violence crimes, there is no RJ or mediation. However, if mediation occurs later, it could be considered by the judge. But at the investigation level, we are not pursuing any RJ efforts,” she stated.
Explanation from the Victim’s Mother’s Legal Counsel
It was previously reported that a 3.5-year-old girl in Sleman was allegedly a victim of molestation by her biological father. The case has been reported to the Sleman City Police since April 2026.
“There were unnatural injuries; based on the examination, a referral was made to Bhayangkara Hospital, and a forensic medical examination (visum) was conducted there,” explained the legal counsel for the victim’s mother, Refingo Krishna Andyamond, when contacted on Thursday (17/9).
Refingo explained that the incident began when the victim’s mother, identified by the initials RN, picked up the child, who was being cared for by her ex-husband (the child’s father), on 31 March 2026.
Since their separation in 2025, the father and mother have shared custody of the child.
“On 31 March, the victim’s mother picked up the child at the residence of her ex-husband. When the child was picked up, the child’s body was warm, appearing unwell,” explained Refingo.
Without suspicion, the mother immediately took the child home. However, the following day, the mother was shocked to find blood stains on the child’s nappy. Without hesitation, the mother took the child to the Turi Community Health Centre (Puskesmas).
“While preparing to bathe the child, the nappy was removed, and there were blood stains inside. The mother thought, ‘The child is under 4 years old, how could they be menstruating?’ Initially, she did not suspect anything sinister. She then immediately took the child to the health centre,” said Refingo.
