PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Operations 6 Yogyakarta has partnered with Bank Indonesia Regional Office of the Special Region of Yogyakarta to open a new currency exchange service at Yogyakarta Station on Friday, 13 March 2026.

“The currency exchange service is scheduled to begin tomorrow, Friday, 13 March 2026, and will continue again on 16 and 17 March 2026,” said Feni Novida Saragih, Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

Train passengers wishing to use this facility can proceed directly to the South Gate of Yogyakarta Station from 09:00 WIB until the daily quota is exhausted.

Feni explained that in accordance with Bank Indonesia’s policy, the total nominal amount that can be exchanged is limited to a maximum of Rp5,300,000 per person with specifically predetermined denomination packages.

The packages include Rp50,000 notes with a maximum nominal of Rp2,500,000, Rp20,000 notes with a maximum nominal of Rp1,000,000, and Rp10,000 notes with a maximum nominal of Rp1,000,000.

Customers can also exchange Rp5,000 notes with a maximum nominal of Rp500,000, Rp2,000 notes with a maximum nominal of Rp200,000, and Rp1,000 notes with a maximum nominal of Rp100,000.

Several requirements must be met by prospective currency exchangers at the station. These include presenting a valid long-distance train ticket with a departure or arrival date at Yogyakarta Station matching the date of the scheduled currency exchange.

In addition to the ticket, customers must also present an original Kartu Tanda Penduduk (KTP) identification card as proof of identity.

The physical condition of the money to be exchanged is also important. Cash must be in good condition and must not be taped, stapled, or affixed with any other adhesive to maintain the integrity of the rupiah notes.

Feni urged customers wishing to use this service to pay attention to the specified schedule and bring a valid long-distance train ticket on the exchange date along with their KTP, given that the service is available on a limited basis according to available quotas.

He said the service was designed to facilitate people travelling for Ramadan holiday trips to meet their needs for new cash in a practical manner.

“The new currency exchange at the station area is expected to make it easier for customers who will be travelling for the holiday period, so they can exchange new notes conveniently before continuing their journey,” he said.
