New chief to restore police image
New chief to restore police image
From Republika
The police should set a good example for society and conduct
an internal reordering to restore the image of the police as a
public protector. With the change of leadership at the National
Police, it is expected the police's image will be restored.
New National Police chief Gen. Sutanto has pledged to carry
out restructuring and reform to improve the behavior, ethics and
culture of the police in providing public services.
According to Sutanto, the internal reform at the police should
be a turning point toward further progress. Members of the police
should take pride in the profession and have strong integrity,
because police duties concern devotion to the public rather than
moneymaking.
Let us hope the new police chief will have the courage to take
stern action against officers found to be involved in illegal
practices like charging higher fees for documents, extortion,
backing gamblers and drug traffickers and others.
