New Chapter in MPR Four Pillars Quiz Competition Enters Court Proceedings

The controversy surrounding the MPR RI’s Four Pillars Quiz Competition (LCC) in West Kalimantan, which previously drew public scrutiny, has entered a new phase. The first hearing regarding a lawsuit filed by lawyer David Tobing is set for next Tuesday.

‘Tuesday, 2 June 2026,’ said Jakarta Central District Court spokesperson Sunoto to reporters on Sunday (31 May 2026).

Lawyer David Tobing has sued the MPR, two judges, and the master of ceremony (MC) of the Four Pillars Quiz Competition in West Kalimantan, which faced widespread criticism over unprofessional scoring of SMAN 1 Pontianak. The plaintiff alleges the defendants committed unlawful acts causing harm to several parties.

‘Yes, the judges and moderator acted improperly, so as a citizen I have the right to correct this, including through a lawsuit at the Jakarta Central District Court with Case No. JKT.PST-12052026HYC dated 12 May 2026,’ David stated in his statement on Wednesday (13 May 2026).

David alleges the defendants violated Article 1365 of the Indonesian Civil Code. He stated the judges and MC failed to exercise due care and professionalism.

‘Any unlawful act causing harm to another obliges the person at fault to compensate for the damage,’ David said.

‘It is clear the judges and MC were careless and unprofessional, causing unfairness in the quiz competition, warranting judicial punishment,’ he added.

In his lawsuit, David alleges the defendants committed unlawful acts. He seeks MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani to dismiss judges Dyastasita and Indri Wahyuni without honour.

‘Order Defendant I (H. Ahmad Muzani as Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly) to dismiss Defendant II (Dyastasita Widya Budi, S.Sos.) and Defendant III (Indri Wahyuni, S.I.P., M.A.), both employees of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia, without honour,’ David said.

‘Sentence Defendant IV (Shindy Luthfiana) to be barred from hosting official state events at local, central, or national levels,’ he added.

Additionally, David requested the two judges issue public apologies. The defendants are also asked to cover all court costs.

‘Order Defendants II (Dyastasita Widya Budi, S.Sos.), III (Indri Wahyuni, S.I.P., M.A.) and IV (Shindy Luthfiana) to publish apologies in three national print newspapers on half a page each. Order all defendants to bear all court costs,’ he said.

Asked for comment, MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani said the institution would examine the lawsuit.

‘I haven’t heard about it yet. We’ll review the lawsuit to understand the claims and core issues,’ Muzani said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (13 May).

The People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of Indonesia has responded to the first hearing regarding the lawsuit over the Four Pillars Quiz Competition controversy in West Kalimantan. The MPR stated it will respect the judicial process.

‘We respect the court process and will comply with it,’ said MPR Acting Secretary-General Siti Fauziah to reporters on Sunday (31 May 2026).

Siti addressed one of the claims, which is the dismissal of judges Dyastasita and Indri Wahyuni. She stated that MPR follows the regulations of the State Civil Service Agency (BKN) and Government Regulation No. 94 of 2021 in determining sanctions.

‘We adhere to BKN regulations and Government Regulation No. 94 of 2021 to determine if any rules were breached,’ she said.

Siti said investigations into the judges’ conduct are ongoing, with no conclusions yet.

MPR Deputy Chair Eddy Soeparno said the institution respects the legal process regarding the lawsuit over the Four Pillars Quiz Competition in West Kalimantan. Eddy stated the MPR would review the lawsuit filed by lawyer David Tobing.

‘Given the lawsuit filed with the district court, we respect the legal process and will review it to provide a response in line with applicable regulations,’ Eddy told reporters on Sunday (31 May 2026).

The PAN faction leader added that the MPR resolved the quiz competition issue involving SMAN 1 Pontianak amicably. He noted SMAN 1 Pontianak accepted the second-place decision and supported SMAN 1 Sambas advancing to the next stage.

‘As stated by MPR leadership, we resolved the controversy with SMAN 1 Pontianak amicably and with goodwill,’ Eddy said.

SMAN 1 Pontianak has stated they accept the second-place decision and wish to support SMAN 1 Sambas in advancing to the national stage,’ he added.

Eddy said the issue regarding the Four Pillars Quiz Competition in West Kalimantan had been resolved. He then addressed the fate of the two controversial judges.

‘I believe the issue has been resolved satisfactorily. Any actions taken by MPR leadership regarding those who failed to meet expectations will be an internal evaluation, to be decided by MPR leadership,’ he added.
