JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A dispute between two neighbours in Kapuk, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, which escalated into violence, has resulted in both individuals being held in custody.

The two perpetrators, a father and son, Dodo Siagian and Nasio Siagian, have officially been named suspects and detained by police after assaulting their neighbour, Darwin (32), due to a complaint about the noise from a drum set, which was deemed disruptive.

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police, AKBP Arfan Zulkan Sipayung, confirmed the detention of the father and son on Tuesday (24/2/2026).

Arfan explained that the legal status of both individuals was elevated to suspects after investigators reviewed the case and found sufficient evidence related to the alleged assault.

“Yes, it is true that their status has been changed to suspects. Yesterday, we held a case review, and now both of them are in custody,” said Arfan.

The Head of Public Relations of the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police, AKP Wisnu Wirawan, stated that the designation as suspects followed a series of lengthy investigative processes.

“Yes, yesterday there was an elevation of status in this case. Specifically, on the 19th (February), it began with a case review and the designation of suspects,” said Wisnu when met by Kompas.com at the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters on Wednesday.

After being designated as suspects, both individuals were summoned for questioning, and a Record of Examination (BAP) was created.

The case files have also been registered with the court. From the results of the follow-up investigation, investigators concluded that all elements of the criminal offence have been legally fulfilled.

Both suspects are charged with multiple articles, with a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

“Both suspects are facing additional charges, so they are charged with multiple articles, firstly Article 262 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, subsidiary to Article 466 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, which concerns violence committed together,” said Wisnu.

However, the police have not ruled out the possibility of resolving the case through a restorative justice (RJ) mechanism.

“But, based on this new Criminal Procedure Law, it is not impossible to carry out restorative justice. However, it will depend on the agreement between both parties,” said Wisnu.
