New Chapter in Case of Disrupted Church Worship in Bantul
Investigators from the Yogyakarta Regional Police (Polda DIY) have elevated the status of the case involving the disruption of church worship in Bantul to the investigation stage. Investigators have conducted a case exposure session. “On Friday, 29 May 2026, Polda DIY investigators conducted a case exposure and increased the case status to the investigation stage,” stated the Head of Public Relations for Polda DIY, Kombes Ihsan, as reported by detikJogja on Monday (1/6/2026). To date, investigators have interrogated 16 witnesses, though Ihsan did not specify the identities of those examined. “Investigators have also conducted marathon examinations of 16 witnesses up to this point,” he added. Meanwhile, the mass organisation Forum Jihad Islam (FJI) DIY plans to file a counter-report, alleging that the GMS (Gereja Mawar Sharon) manipulated data. “For now, we will not provide a statement yet, as we are currently preparing the documents to file our counter-report,” said the Chairman of FJI DIY, Abdurrahman, as reported by detikJogja on Tuesday (2/6). He continued, “(The report concerns) data manipulation by the church side.”
