JAKARTA - New four-wheeled or more vehicle sales in Indonesia showed a positive trend in April 2026, after slowing during the Eid al-Fitr period. According to data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), both vehicle distribution from factories to dealers (wholesales) and direct sales to consumers (retail) experienced increases, both monthly and annually. Wholesales for April 2026 recorded 80,776 units, up 31.8 percent from the previous month’s 61,268 units. Meanwhile, retail sales also posted positive growth, with sales from dealers to consumers reaching 75,730 units, an increase of 13.7 percent compared to March 2026. On an annual basis, retail sales rose 30.2 percent from April 2025’s 58,174 units. Gaikindo’s Vice Chairman for Market Development, Jongkie D Sugiarto, hopes this growth trend will continue through the end of the year. “We hope it can continue in the coming months to achieve the annual projections we have set,” Jongkie told Kompas.com on Monday (11/5/2026). Wholesales for the first four months of this year reached 289,787 units, up 12.5 percent from the same period in 2025 at 257,647 units. Retail sales from January to April 2026 were recorded at 287,581 units, an increase of 6.9 percent compared to the same period last year at 268,940 units.
