New BKN Programme Allows Civil Servants to Work Near Home, Will It Apply to Other Agencies?

The National Civil Service Agency (BKN) has designed a new programme enabling civil servants (ASN) to work closer to their homes. The programme, which prioritises employee domicile and family, is currently in a trial phase and aims to cut costs while boosting ASN performance.

"BKN is bringing ASN closer to their families, to their domiciles, God willing we will soon be able to bring our ASN closer," said BKN Head Zudan Arif Fakrulloh in a post on the BKN Instagram account, Wednesday (22/7/2026).

Zudan stressed that the programme will initially be dedicated to ASN within BKN. He said civil servants (PNS) and government employees with work agreements (PPPK) in other agencies could adapt the policy if it proves effective in driving performance and efficiency.

"This is for BKN only at first, hopefully it can inspire other ministries, agencies, provinces, and regencies/cities, so it can become a national movement," he explained.

He admitted to designing the programme in response to the concerns of ASN who want to fulfil their responsibilities as parents while still meeting their obligations to the state.

"Fulfilling the responsibilities of being a mother, a father, to give full attention to their children, to be more efficient, to reduce expenses. If husband and wife are together, they can save on plane tickets, kitchen expenses, electricity, and water, and I understand this," Zudan said.

On that occasion, Zudan also acknowledged that the programme was conceived because he realised he had not yet been able to boost ASN income. Therefore, the most prudent step is to reduce their working expenses.

"When I haven’t been able to increase income, it would be very wise if all leaders could reduce the level of expenditure. That’s why we are starting to execute this programme," he concluded.
