New BGN Chief Sudaryono Vows Immediate Work on Free Nutritious Meals Programme

Newly appointed Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sudaryono, has stated he will immediately get to work to ensure the success of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Programme following his inauguration by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday. “We are going to sort this out (MBG). We will work straight away, go straight to the office, hold meetings straight away,” he said at the BGN Office in Central Jakarta. Sudaryono arrived at the BGN Office at around 4.50 p.m. Western Indonesian Time after taking his oath at the State Palace. He was welcomed by BGN Deputy Head Agustina Arumsari, BGN Deputy Head Trenggono, and other BGN officials. President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Sudaryono as the new Head of BGN at the State Palace on Wednesday afternoon. He was appointed based on Presidential Decree Number 78P of 2026 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of the Head of BGN, signed by President Prabowo on 22 July 2026. Sudaryono officially replaces Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, who announced her resignation as BGN Head on Wednesday morning. During the inauguration ceremony, President Prabowo personally led the oath-taking proceedings. Sudaryono, who previously served as Deputy Minister of Agriculture, revealed that his appointment to replace Nanik, who resigned for health reasons, was only confirmed on Wednesday morning. He said that on Tuesday evening he was contacted by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi regarding the possibility of being appointed. “Then this morning I received a call from Cabinet Secretary Teddy (Indra Wijaya), confirming that I would be officially inaugurated today to replace Bu Nanik. Once again, she resigned due to health reasons, and we pray that Bu Nanik recovers quickly, regains her health, and returns to being energetic and well,” Sudaryono said before the inauguration. Responding to reports that he had been prepared for the position since early July, Sudaryono denied the claims.
