New BGN Chief Sudaryono Vows Governance Reform, Urges Staff to Face Problems Head-On

The new Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sudaryono, has directed his staff to confront the institution’s problems head-on and improve its governance. Speaking to reporters after a consolidation meeting at the BGN headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/7/2026), Sudaryono acknowledged that the agency is facing serious governance issues. “We are aware of the problems, and we have to run into the problem. We must be willing to solve the issues; we cannot run away from them,” he stated. He noted that some personnel are currently involved in legal processes, whether as witnesses or suspects, and stressed that the agency fully supports the requirements of law enforcement. “As the new Head of the Agency, we will provide whatever is needed for the enforcement of the law,” he said. Despite these challenges, Sudaryono urged the team not to succumb to pessimism and to continue serving the public optimally. He emphasized a commitment to building a more transparent, system-based governance structure, moving away from practices that rely on specific individuals. “What was once dark must become light. What was not transparent must become transparent. We must not depend on specific persons, but on the system,” he asserted. He also opened the door for stakeholders, including the media, to report any irregularities in the field for immediate investigation. The meeting concluded with Sudaryono apologising for the lack of a sound system during his first press conference, calling it a reprimand for the agency and stressing that information must be conveyed properly.
