The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government predicts that the number of new arrivals to the capital after Eid 2026 will experience a decline compared to previous years. This is based on preliminary data from the DKI Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Office (Disdukcapil), which recorded 967 new arrivals from Wednesday (25/3/2026) to Tuesday (30/3/2026). The Head of Disdukcapil DKI Jakarta, Denny Wahyu Haryanto, stated that this downward trend is evident when referring to the comparison over the last three years. “Looking at the trend over the last three years, there seems to be a decline,” said Denny when contacted on Tuesday (31/3/2026). The figure dropped sharply to 16,207 people in 2024, and further decreased to 16,049 people in 2025, or a reduction of about 0.97 percent. Denny mentioned that there are several factors suspected to influence this downward trend. Among them is the increasing evenness of economic growth in the regions along with the development of industrial centres in various areas. “In some regions, industrial centres have been established so that economic growth is starting to become more even,” explained Denny. In addition, Jakarta’s transformation as a global city is also influencing people’s mindsets. “To live in Jakarta, it’s not just about being bold but having skills so that one can adapt quickly in Jakarta,” he said. Another influencing factor is the readiness of housing. Many prospective arrivals do not yet have certainty of housing, so they choose to delay their arrival until they have guarantees, either from family, relatives, friends, or through rental contracts. Nevertheless, Denny emphasised that the data on the number of arrivals this year is still provisional.
