The Ministry of Environment/Environmental Protection Agency (KLH/BPLH) has changed the new assessment system in the Adipura award program. Now there are only two categories, namely Clean City and Dirty City.

The implementation of this assessment system is considered a serious warning for local governments.

As conveyed by the Mayor of Bogor, Dedie A. Rachim, who called it a serious warning for all local governments, including the City of Bogor. This serious warning points to local governments so that they no longer handle the problem of waste management half-heartedly.

As is known, Adipura is a prestigious award from KLH/BPLH which is given to cities/regencies in Indonesia for their success in maintaining cleanliness, waste management, and the quality of the urban environment.

He responded to this system change as a form of firmness from the central government in encouraging regions to be more serious in managing waste and maintaining environmental cleanliness.

“Now there is no more comfort zone. Cities that are able to control and manage waste well will be called Clean Cities. Conversely, cities that still have waste management problems will be categorized as Dirty Cities. This is very firm and very clear,” said Dedie in his press release, Wednesday (2/25).

The new assessment which only has two categories, he continued, is a reflection of the city’s face in the national spotlight.

This new Adipura assessment system will put a lot of emphasis on the performance of overall waste management. Starting from reducing waste from the source, sorting, collecting, processing, to the condition of the final landfill (TPA).

“If the waste management is still problematic, no matter how beautiful the park is, it cannot be called a Clean City. This is a more honest and objective approach,” he said.

In handling waste, he continued, his party emphasizes the importance of collaboration between the government, the community, and the business world. This is to create a sustainable waste management system.

“The government cannot work alone. The awareness of residents to sort waste, reduce single-use plastics, and maintain environmental cleanliness is a determining factor. Clean City is not just the work of the mayor, but the work together.”

“Adipura is a real measure of whether a city really cares about its environment or not,” he concluded. (H-3)
