New Academic Year: SRMP 17 Tabanan to Relocate to Karangasem
Teaching and learning activities for public schools in Bali are set to be unified and centralised in Karangasem Regency starting from the 2026/2027 academic year. Students previously studying at Sekolah Rakyat Menengah Pertama (SRMP) 17 Tabanan will also be relocated to Karangasem.
The Head of SRMP 17 Tabanan, I Putu Jaya Negara, stated that the relocation plan was initiated by the Ministry of Social Affairs. For the past year, junior high school students in Tabanan have been attending classes at the Mahatmiya Centre in Banjar Anyar Village, Kediri District, Tabanan.
“The Minister of Social Affairs stated that all educational levels, from primary to upper secondary, will be merged in Karangasem,” Jaya Negara said during President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to the Mahatmiya Centre in Tabanan on Sunday (7/6/2026).
Currently, SRMP 17 Tabanan has 75 students hailing from various regencies across Bali. Jaya Negara noted that the future public school in Karangasem is expected to accommodate 270 students across all levels. He added that the number of applicants has surged to 400, even before the official registration period has commenced. “During the meeting with the President, approximately 150 prospective parents were also present, intending to enrol their children in the public school from primary through to upper secondary levels,” he added.
The plan is to move educational support facilities from the Mahatmiya Centre during the school holidays, excluding non-educational amenities such as bedding. “According to the information, all facilities, including student dormitories, will be fully prepared in Karangasem,” Jaya Negara concluded.
