NEV Production and Sales in China Record Growth in April 2026

Beijing (ANTARA) - Production and sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China recorded year-on-year growth in April 2026, according to industry data released on Monday (11/5). NEV output rose 5.5% year-on-year to 1.32 million units, while sales increased by 9.7% to 1.34 million units, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). From total new car sales in April 2026, NEVs contributed 53.2%, according to the data. In the first four months of this year, car production and sales in China were recorded at 9.61 million units and 9.57 million units respectively. NEV production and sales reached 4.29 million units and 4.3 million units in that period. In January-April, the country’s vehicle exports surged 61.5% year-on-year to 3.13 million units, with NEV exports soaring 120% to 1.38 million units. CAAM Deputy Secretary-General Chen Shihua stated that although car production and sales dipped slightly year-on-year in April 2026, the cumulative decline in the first four months of this year is narrowing. Recent policy measures have sent positive signals that will help boost domestic automotive demand, strengthen foreign trade advantages, and promote stable operations and high-quality development in the sector, Chen added.
