Netizens Mock Newly Built Road Damage in Bima: Is Rain the Suspect?
A hotmix road section leading to Kore Wharf in Kore Village, Sanggar District, Bima Regency, has gone viral on social media after reports emerged that its surface had peeled off despite having only just been completed in early February 2026.
The road repair project was funded from the 2025 Regional Budget (APBD) at a cost of Rp 1.49 billion. The asphalting work was completed on 7 February 2026.
However, less than a month after completion, the asphalt at several points was reported to have already stripped away.
The condition drew scrutiny from residents and road users, particularly after rainfall hit the area. A video of residents patching up the peeling road in Bima went viral on social media on Sunday (22 February).
The public has questioned the quality of the project’s workmanship, given the road’s extremely young age. Residents have called on the relevant authorities to promptly conduct an evaluation and carry out repairs to prevent the damage from spreading further.
Discussion on social media was awash with sarcastic commentary.
“Just make the rain the suspect — why did it damage a government project… quack quack quack… I bet the contractor is a relative or associate of a council member,” wrote one netizen.
“Be careful, they’ll end up making the rain the suspect,” said another.
“Ha, meanwhile near my village they only fix the roads when elections are coming,” quipped yet another.
To date, there has been no official statement from either the project contractor or the local government regarding the cause of the damage or the remedial steps to be taken.
