Netizen's Admission of Withdrawing Imperfectly Printed Rp 50,000 Note Prompts Response from BNI
A netizen with the Threads account @nra**** posted about withdrawing cash in Rp 50,000 denominations from a BNI (Bank Negara Indonesia) ATM on Thursday, 2 April 2026. The user claimed that one Rp 50,000 note was imperfectly printed on the front, appearing blank in that section, although the location of the ATM was not specified. Normally, that section features an image of the national hero Ir. H. Djuanda Kartawidjaja. Netizens flooded the post with comments. Another admission from @nra**** revealed that someone was interested in buying the blank note for Rp 500,000. “It’s really buzzing, lots of DMs too, someone already offered Rp 500,000, didn’t expect the blank money to be so valuable, what should I do with this, Threads community,” the user said. Okki emphasised that BNI’s ATMs and CRMs are equipped with automatic verification technology. “Regarding the circulating information about the Rp 50,000 note that was not printed perfectly and received via ATM, we can state that BNI ensures all ATMs/CRMs are equipped with a system that automatically checks the authenticity of the money, both during loading and when money is redeposited by customers,” he said, quoted from Kompas.com on Saturday (4/4/2026). Naturally, BNI is ready to assist with the clarification process. “We advise customers who receive money in imperfect condition to check or exchange it at the nearest BNI branch office or Bank Indonesia counter. BNI is also ready to help with the clarification process in accordance with applicable provisions,” he explained. Kompas.com has contacted BI for confirmation on this issue but has not yet received an official statement from BI.
