Netherlands firm to invest in Sorong

SORONG, Papua: A private company from the Netherlands, NV Waterleiding Maatschappy Drenthe (WMD), plans to invest in the construction of water plants in six regions in Papua, including Sorong, Manokwari and Jayapura municipalities.

Karst Hoogsteen, the company's president director, said on Friday the investment would help local residents overcome water shortages in the six regions.

Hoogsteen would not go into detail on the value of the investment, merely saying his company would contribute half of the total cost of the project, which is scheduled to begin soon. -- JP
