Jakarta (ANTARA) - Netflix has threatened ByteDance with litigation over the Chinese company's AI service Seedance 2.0, alleging it facilitates copyright infringement.

According to a report by Variety on Tuesday (17/2), Netflix sent a cease-and-desist letter demanding that the company remove its intellectual property (IP) from training datasets and implement safeguards to prevent further infringement.

Netflix accused ByteDance of facilitating copyright infringement against the series "Stranger Things", "KPop Demon Hunters", "Squid Game", and "Bridgerton".

"Seedance acts as a high-speed piracy engine, generating vast quantities of unauthorised derivative works by exploiting Netflix's iconic characters, story worlds, and scripted narratives," said Netflix litigation director Mindy LeMoine.

In the legal action, ByteDance was given three days to respond.

One of the allegations concerns circulating videos that feature unauthorised depictions of fourth-season "Bridgerton" costumes set against a masquerade ball backdrop.

"These outputs mirror specific, narratively significant costumes, such as Sophie Baek's 'Lady in Silver' gown," LeMoine said.

Netflix also noted circulating videos from the final episode of "Stranger Things" featuring detailed reproductions of the show's iconic cast members and monsters.

Users also created unauthorised works, such as inserting real-world figure Elon Musk into the "Squid Game" environment, the letter stated.

The letter further alleged that users had created video clips reproducing the visual style and character designs of "KPop Demon Hunters", including its main character Rumi.

Netflix's action follows similar moves by Disney, Paramount, and Warner Bros., each of which has accused ByteDance of stealing their most valuable intellectual property.
