Netflix Expands Ad-Supported Tier to 15 Countries, Including Indonesia
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Netflix has announced it will introduce an ad-supported subscription package in Indonesia starting in 2027 as part of its expansion to 15 new countries.
In addition to Indonesia, the service expansion also includes Austria, Belgium, Colombia, Denmark, Thailand, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Sweden, and Switzerland.
In an official statement on Thursday, Netflix stated that the ad-supported package will provide a more affordable pricing option for subscribers while opening new opportunities for brands and advertisers to reach the platform’s audience.
The Netflix ad-supported package will still offer access to a wide range of series and films on the platform, with the addition of some advertisements during viewing.
“We are very excited to expand the Netflix ad-supported package to 15 new countries in 2027, including Indonesia. For members, this means more choices to enjoy Netflix at a price that suits their needs. For advertisers, it opens opportunities to connect with more active and engaged Netflix fans worldwide. We see tremendous growth potential and are increasingly optimistic about the future,” said Reinhard.
Netflix first launched the ad-supported package in 2022 in 12 countries. Currently, the service is claimed to reach more than 250 million monthly active users globally, with more than 80 percent of active subscribers watching every week.
The company also stated that the ad-supported package now contributes more than 60 percent of total new subscribers in the first quarter of this year.
Netflix said it is currently working with more than 4,000 global advertisers, an increase of 70 percent compared to the previous year. The company’s advertising revenue is projected to reach around $3 billion this year, doubling compared to 2025.
In addition to expanding its advertising business, Netflix will also introduce new ad formats for podcasts and vertical videos starting in 2027 and expand brand collaborations through the Tudum fan platform.
The company also stated that it has utilised artificial intelligence (AI) technology to support the development of more interactive and immersive advertising experiences on its platform.
