Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed gratitude for Israel’s war with Iran, stating the conflict has distanced the country from weapons of mass destruction.

As reported by Aljazeera on Tuesday, Netanyahu said on Monday that the joint US-Israeli military campaign against Iran had saved his country from what he described as a threat of ‘nuclear annihilation’ from the Islamic republic.

‘The most important thing is that we have saved the State of Israel from the threat of nuclear annihilation,’ Netanyahu said, in his first comments after Washington and Tehran agreed to a deal to end the war in the Middle East.

Netanyahu stressed that his people had been in grave danger of mass death. He expressed relief at having distanced his citizens from that threat.

‘And what does that mean? It means millions of Israeli citizens – you who are listening to me now – you would all have been in grave danger of mass death… And we have distanced ourselves, for years to come, from this danger of annihilating the population of Israel,’ Netanyahu said in a televised press conference.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump confirmed that a peace deal between the United States and Iran had been signed. He stated that the Strait of Hormuz would be fully reopened by Friday.

As reported by Aljazeera on Tuesday, Trump made his statement in Evian-Les-Bains, France, speaking alongside French President Emmanuel Macron.

‘The deal with Tehran has been signed,’ Trump said.

However, Trump did not clarify whether Iran had also signed the document.

‘The deal has been signed, and the Strait has been partially opened,’ Trump added.
