Netanyahu to Attend UN in New York, Dismisses Arrest Concerns by Mayor

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated he will attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States, and is not concerned about being arrested by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. “No, I’m not worried about anything. I definitely plan to do this,” Netanyahu said, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Monday. Netanyahu noted he almost always attends diplomatic meetings, claiming he has participated every year during his tenure as prime minister. Mamdani previously told The New York Times that his administration’s legal department is actively discussing the possibility of arresting Netanyahu should he set foot in New York City. “I believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu should be tried in The Hague,” Mamdani said, referring to the ICC headquarters in the Netherlands. “He is a war criminal who has been indicted by the International Criminal Court. And you will find that this view is held by many people simply because of the impact of his actions over the last few years,” he stated in the interview. In 2024, the ICC found reasonable grounds to believe Netanyahu bears responsibility for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity related to Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
