Netanyahu Signals Israel's Readiness for Unilateral Military Action Against Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has signalled that Israel could take unilateral military action against Iran, without the involvement of its close ally the United States. The hint emerged as diplomatic efforts are underway between Tehran and Washington to reach an agreement to end the war that has raged for the past five months.

Netanyahu, as reported by Anadolu Agency and Palestine Chronicle on Thursday, indicated his readiness to act in a recent statement. He stressed Israel’s determination to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, suggesting that a military option remains on the table irrespective of diplomatic developments.

“Today we heard the Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Ahmad Vahidi, declare that Iran intends to continue developing nuclear weapons,” the Israeli Prime Minister said. “As Prime Minister of Israel, I am determined to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.”

While acknowledging the United States as “Israel’s greatest ally”, Netanyahu asserted that he is “determined to do whatever is necessary to guarantee Israel’s security”.

The statement was made as Qatar, acting as a mediator, confirmed that negotiations between Iran and the US have reached an “advanced stage”, with both sides exchanging draft proposals. Qatari Foreign Minister Majed al-Ansari affirmed that joint efforts by all parties to reach a diplomatic solution are still ongoing. Concurrently, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that attempts to overthrow the Islamic Republic have failed.
