Netanyahu Says Trump Agrees Iran Must Not Develop Nuclear Weapons

Netanyahu made the statement after meeting with Trump on Saturday, 24 May 2026, which Trump claimed went very well. “President Trump and I agree that any final agreement with Iran must fully eliminate the nuclear threat. This means dismantling Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities and removing enriched nuclear materials from its territory,” Netanyahu said, according to AFP on Monday, 25 May 2026. He also stressed that Israel’s stance on Iran’s nuclear programme remains unchanged. “My policy, like President Trump’s, remains unchanged: Iran will not acquire nuclear weapons,” he added. Beyond the Iran nuclear issue, Netanyahu said he and Trump discussed a memorandum of understanding regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. He highlighted the strong relationship between Israel and the United States amid rising regional tensions. “The partnership between our two nations has been proven on the battlefield and has never been stronger,” Netanyahu stated. He added that Trump reiterated his support for Israel’s right to self-defence against security threats, including those from Lebanon.
