Netanyahu Hails 'Best Conversation' with Trump on Preventing a Nuclear Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with US President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington DC. The content of their closed-door meeting focused on ensuring that Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons.

The talks, described by the White House as ‘positive and productive’, lasted approximately one and a half hours. Netanyahu stated that he had an ‘excellent’ meeting with President Trump, marking their first face-to-face discussions since the war with Iran began at the end of February.

‘I have just concluded a very good meeting with President Trump,’ Netanyahu said in a video statement. He added that the meeting addressed the two countries’ desire to guarantee that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons, calling it ‘our common goal’.

He described the dialogue at the White House as the best conversation they have ever had. ‘It was one of the best conversations I have ever had with the President of the United States, our friend Donald Trump,’ he said.

The visit came as the leaders sought to mend public differences over the conflict. Relations between Trump and Netanyahu had reached a low point in April during ceasefire negotiations with Iran, when Trump directed harsh criticism at his Israeli ally, later describing Netanyahu in an interview as ‘a very difficult person’.
