Netanyahu Denies Rift with Trump, Claims US Agrees on Disarming Hezbollah
“Hezbollah is an Iranian proxy that holds all Lebanese citizens at gunpoint and uses Lebanon as a platform to launch terror missiles at our cities and deploy killer drones against our civilians,” Netanyahu stated, as reported by AFP on Thursday (4/6/2026).
He stated that he shares the same vision as Trump regarding the management of the conflict in Lebanon. According to Netanyahu, the only way to end the war in the region is by disarming Hezbollah.
“So, if we want to save Lebanon, if we want to achieve Lebanon-Israel peace, as I desire, we must disarm Hezbollah and we must demilitarise Lebanon. And I know that this is a shared goal between the President (Trump) and me, and that is what we must do,” he said.
Netanyahu also acknowledged that there are occasionally differing views with Trump. However, he maintained that such differences can be resolved based on the shared interests of the US and Israel.
“There are tactical disagreements. We always find ways to resolve them, and we do so as good friends. We can disagree in the morning, and by the afternoon, we have taken joint action,” he remarked.
When asked whether his relationship with Trump had changed, Netanyahu insisted it had not.
“This is a great relationship, because he is the best friend Israel has ever had in the White House,” he said.
“He respects me. I respect him. We always find ways to resolve our differences,” he added.
It was previously reported that US President Donald Trump was reportedly incensed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over Israel’s military escalation in Lebanon. This allegedly occurred during a telephone conversation between the two on Monday (1/6) local time.
This was revealed by two US officials and a third source who spoke to Axios on Tuesday (2/6).
According to Axios, Trump was angry because Israel’s operations against the Hezbollah militia group in Lebanon risked undermining ongoing diplomacy with Iran and damaging efforts to maintain a fragile regional ceasefire.
“You are truly crazy. What are you doing?” Trump reportedly exclaimed to Netanyahu, according to the report, after learning of Israel’s military actions in Lebanon.
