Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has indicated that Israel could launch unilateral military action against Iran, regardless of ongoing regional efforts to broker a diplomatic agreement between Tehran and Washington.

Netanyahu made the remarks on Wednesday, asserting Israel’s determination to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. “Today we heard the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Ahmad Vahidi, state that Iran intends to continue developing nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu claimed. “As Prime Minister of Israel, I am determined to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.” While describing the United States as “Israel’s greatest ally,” Netanyahu added that he is prepared to do “whatever is necessary” to ensure Israel’s security.

The statement was delivered as diplomatic efforts continue to resolve the months-long confrontation between Iran and the United States. Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said on Tuesday that mediation efforts have reached an “advanced stage,” with both sides exchanging draft proposals as negotiations move towards a broader agreement. He noted that regional mediators remain in communication with all parties to achieve a diplomatic solution.

The current negotiations follow months of conflict that began after the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran in late February. Since then, Pakistan and Qatar have played key roles in mediation, which resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding in June, before talks stalled over several issues, including shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
