Netanyahu and Elon Musk Meeting Suddenly Cancelled
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly cancelled a meeting with the world’s wealthiest individual and tech industry leader, Elon Musk, in Texas this week. His visit to the United States will also be significantly shortened.
In preparation for the meeting between the two figures, an Israeli advance team had already travelled to Texas. The meeting was reportedly expected to require complex logistical efforts, as Netanyahu’s aircraft would be unable to fly directly from Israel to Texas, necessitating refuelling stops within the US.
However, the team was subsequently informed that the visit had been cancelled. Israeli officials stated that the decision was made personally by Netanyahu, according to Ynetnews on Tuesday (22/09/2026).
Netanyahu was also scheduled to be in the US this week to attend and speak at the annual UN General Assembly. The event is taking place from 22–28 September 2026, with Netanyahu’s speech scheduled for Thursday, 24 September 2026.
While his appearance at the UN General Assembly is confirmed, his presence in New York will only last for a few hours. He is not expected to arrive on Wednesday, but rather on Thursday morning before taking the podium.
Netanyahu is then expected to deliver his speech at 2:00 PM local time on the same day. Following this, he is reported to fly directly back to Israel, as cited by Ynetnews.
In addition to cancelling the meeting with Elon Musk, Netanyahu is also reportedly not going to meet US President Donald Trump. The two leaders were expected to meet during Netanyahu’s stay in the US.
Quoting a US official last weekend, Netanyahu’s name does not appear in Trump’s schedule during the UN General Assembly events. However, Netanyahu’s office stated that his leader’s schedule remains flexible, provided a meeting with Trump is arranged.
Other US officials suggested that Netanyahu’s presence in the country is highly limited because Israel is set to face upcoming general elections.
