Nepal-Tibet Flood Update: 1,130 Dead and 4,462 Missing

The number of fatalities caused by the massive flash floods striking Nepal and Tibet continues to rise. At least 1,130 people have been confirmed dead in both regions, and nearly 4,500 others remain missing, one week after the catastrophic disaster.

Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, as reported by AFP and Anadolu Agency on Wednesday (2/9/2026), reported that at least 1,114 bodies have been found within its territory as of Wednesday morning local time. Another 3,916 people are reported to be missing, while 292 others have sustained injuries in the Nepal region.

Separately, Chinese state media reported that the death toll in the Tibet region has increased to at least 16 people. A total of 546 others are reported missing in Tibet, including 261 foreign nationals.

With these additional deaths, the total number of fatalities resulting from the devastating flash floods that ravaged the Nepal-Tibet border region on 26 August has reached at least 1,130. The total number of missing persons across both regions has now reached 4,462.

In a statement, Nepalese authorities added that approximately 12,000 people have been rescued from the areas affected by the flash floods. More than 21,000 security personnel, including members of the military and police, have been deployed to assist in the ongoing search and rescue operations. These rescue efforts have faced obstacles due to continuous rainfall and the threat of subsequent flooding.

According to data from Nepalese authorities, approximately 1.6 million people in the region have been impacted by the flash floods.
