Nepal rescues 121 foreign tourists from flood disaster

The number of foreign tourists rescued following the floods in Nepal has risen to 121, according to a report from the Nepal Tourism Board on Friday.

Previously, the Kathmandu Post reported that 117 people had been rescued.

“List of foreign tourists rescued as of 15.30 [09.45 GMT] Friday, 28 August 2026. Total: 121,” read a document posted on the board’s website.

The rescued tourists include nationals from India, China, South Korea, the United States, Russia, Italy, Bulgaria and Switzerland. Meanwhile, the nationalities of three of the 121 survivors have yet to be confirmed.

Rescue operations in the flood-hit areas of Nepal have resumed after being temporarily suspended due to high water levels, according to media reports citing local military representatives.

Strong currents flowed into the Bhote Koshi River in Nepal’s mountainous region on Wednesday (26/8).

The cause of the flash flood was initially reported to be an earthquake and subsequent landslides.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) stated on Thursday (27/8) that the seismic activity was caused by a glacier collapse, rather than underground tremors.

Based on the latest data, the death toll from the floods in Nepal has reached 547 people.
