Nepal landslide death toll reaches 1,396

Beijing (ANTARA) - The death toll from the landslide disaster in northern Nepal has now reached 1,396, according to a report by China Central Television (CCTV) citing Nepali authorities on Tuesday.

Previously, the number of fatalities in the disaster was reported to be 1,367.

A woman in Nepal was reported to have survived after being trapped for ten days under the rubble, according to the Kathmandu Post on Saturday (5 September), citing the Nepal Armed Police Force.

She was found unconscious and was evacuated by helicopter to a Nepali military base to receive medical treatment.

Flash floods struck northern Nepal on Wednesday morning (26 August) after torrents of water swept into the Bhotekoshi River. The flooding occurred after a glacier shrank, subsequently triggering the landslide.
